Having personally sold over 400 turnkey energy management projects in six years while vice president of a California contracting company, since 1990 Dale has become one of the nation’s best-known and most highly lauded energy-efficiency sales trainers. Principal of D.A. Gustavson Company, he also holds the title Director Emeritus for the California State Chapter of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America

Over the last 20 years, he has helped thousands of contractors, engineers, wholesalers, manufacturers, utilities, and government agencies throughout the country design, market, sell, apply, and support energy management programs and projects.

Along the way, Dale has served as an Advisory Board member for the California Board for Energy Efficiency, CEC’s PIER, Contracting Business magazine, Editorial Director for CB’s sister publication Energy & Environmental Management, and has spoken at national conferences hosted by ACEEE, ACCA, SMACNA, NEMI, NECA, AEE, APEM, Carrier, Contracting Business magazine and Honeywell.

According to Dale, above all else, he is an HVAC technician.  President of D.T. Rossi, Inc., a Pennsylvania-based commercial maintenance firm, Dale is also the co-inventor of the advanced portable diagnostics system known as the HVAC Service Assistant (AKA: ACRx) and a founding partner of Field Diagnostic Services, Inc.  A former partner in Four Seasons Mechanical, a regional HVAC contractor with 100 technicians in 22 states, Dale is the HVAC industry’s foremost expert in the deployment and application of advanced portable diagnostics in the light commercial market sector. He is the most experienced provider of advanced diagnostics services for unitary HVAC systems in the country.

Dale has trained hundreds of technicians, service managers and contractors in the subjects of Advanced Refrigeration Cycle Diagnostics, Multi-location Maintenance Management, and How to Integrate Computer-based Fault Detection Diagnostics in an HVAC Service Company and has developed an extensive portfolio of manuals for use in the field.

In addition to several other high-level positions held in technology manufacturing companies during his career, most recently Brett served for sixteen years as the CEO of Williams Comfort, manufacturer of commercial and residential HVAC equipment under the Williams name and under the brand names of some of the world’s largest manufacturers.  Brett understands manufacturing and distribution.

Jim is Owner and President of Marina Mechanical, a 40-year-old Northern California design, build, and maintenance contracting company.  Jim’s unparalleled contracting expertise has been amplified by years of service to the industry, most notably having been National Chairman of the Board for the Air Conditioning Contractors of America in 2001 where he made NATE certification one of his administration’s highest priorities.  During that year in particular, and during 13 years on the National ACCA board, Jim has met with thousands of contractors and worked with the top executives of HVAC manufacturing and distribution companies and their associations.

Malcolm has over 30 years' experience in the engineering design, analysis, and construction observation of mechanical and electrical systems of buildings. He is registered in Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical engineering and brings a broad perspective to the resolution of construction disputes. Co-founder of the Better Buildings companies and President of CTG Enterprises, Malcolm is an internationally recognized expert in the sustainable design of energy efficient buildings and is actively involved the development of the LEEDTM Green Building Rating system for the U.S. Green Buildings Council where he served as a National Director from 1997 – 2002.

As President of Elemco Building Controls since 1988, Zach has overseen the development of customized software for energy management control, sub-metering, industrial process control, and measurement & verification systems serving the commercial, industrial, institutional and multi-family market sectors.  Though Zach does serve as Better Buildings’ resident geek, his experience spans from the boardroom to the boiler room and everyplace in between.  In addition to other educational initiatives, to keep himself sharp, Zach also trains commercial building operating engineers in energy conservation, DDC, and maintenance.

Bob, a visionary electrical contractor with a love of energy management, opened Xencom Systems in 1985 with a financial partner and but two employees.  Today Bob serves as Chairman and CEO of the Xencom family of companies which now employees over 700 employees in 12 states.  A diversified service provider, Xencom built its reputation for excellence by designing, installing and maintaining energy management control systems in regional shopping centers throughout the US.  Having installed over 100 such systems positions Xencom as the second largest provider of EMCS in the country in this niche.

Glenn is a Principal with Taylor Engineering, an Alameda, CA-based consultancy specializing in HVAC systems design and construction, energy conservation, indoor air quality, temperature controls, and system commissioning.  An HVAC contractor for 18 years before joining Taylor, Glenn is a past National Chairman of the Board of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America.  An expert in the design/build process for HVAC systems, Glenn consulted to the update of ACCA’s Manual J8, is one of only a few ACCA-Certified Manual J8 Instructors in the country, assisted in development of the 2005 California Energy Code and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

With over 30 years of progressive experience, Larry Barrett, President of Barrett Consulting Associates since 1989, has managed projects for utilities (electric, gas, investor, cooperative, and municipal); trade associations and research institutes in electricity and renewable energy; original equipment manufacturers (space conditioning, insulation, water heating, telecommunications, e-commerce, and manufactured housing); energy users with multi-site locations; energy service companies; and contractors.  A former utility executive, Larry spent his early years in the industry as a Policy Analyst at both the U.S. Office of Management & Budget and the EPA.
